A title alone is not a good enough resource to guess what an entire film is about, but the internet has a decent guess. The next movie in the Star Wars franchise, episode VIII, has a title finally. It’s title? Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Under movie director and writer Rian Johnson, who will also direct Star Wars episode IX, the movie is supposed to begin right where the last one ends — with Rey giving Luke his old lightsaber on top of that mountain. The current guess is that the movie is going to center around Luke Skywalker, who may just be the last jedi. Of course, we don’t know this for sure. With countless ideas and speculation about how Rey is possibly a Jedi, though no one knows how quite yet, it’s possible the title has more than one meaning.
There’s actually a Star Wars novel by the same name, written by Micheal Reaves and Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff. There’s also an entire young adult book series entitled, “Star Wars: The Last of the Jedi”, that takes place before the movie A New Hope.
Realizing this leaves somewhat of a bad taste in my mouth. I understand that these novelizations may not be considered canon, but come on, guys …can’t you think of anything more clever? I don’t know, I’m already not the biggest Star Wars fan myself, though I can appreciate the lore, the movies just don’t do it for me. However, I’m curious as to what you guys think. Do you like the title, or do you think there could have been something more clever added?
The movie is set to release for December 15, 2017.
